Kevin Baker, of Kevin Baker Homes, Keller Williams The Woodlands, is a top rated Real Estate Agent who lives in The Woodlands, Texas.

The 40-year-old professional Real Estate agent, owner of Kevin Baker Homes, helps anyone with their home buying needs. Included in this are first time home buyers, luxury home buyers, seasoned buyers, clients relocating to the area, sellers that need to list and sell their home, new construction with builders and real estate investors. Kevin and his Kevin Baker Homes team focus on real estate services in the Woodlands, Magnolia, Conroe, Spring, and surrounding Houston areas.

Originally from Troy, Michigan, Kevin learned about work ethic early from his parents. Kevin’s father worked in media and public relations with Ford Motor Company during Detroit’s booming period, while his mother worked in sales and interior design. This work ethic has translated into his career in real estate.

Kevin graduated from Yale with a Masters degree in Psychology. He started out in real estate with investment properties ten years ago as a part time pursuit. Kevin’s enjoyment and success in real estate quickly became a full time job as he realized how much he loved it. He enjoys being able to interact personally with his clients and strives to do right by them. At any given time, Kevin and his team have around twenty or so active clients with some seasonal fluctuation, with spring and summer being the busiest. Kevin’s passion and dedication for real estate and his clients are one of the top reasons for his continued success.

Woodlands Monocle met with Kevin to ask him some specifics regarding real estate. We ended up learning a lot about the home buying process as well!

– Woodlands Monocle – What is something that everyone should know when buying a home?

Kevin Baker – “I would say to stay focused on the must haves. Narrow it down to what you need, and come in with an open mind and some flexibility. You may have as a ‘must have’ a game room or pool, school zone, or age of the home. You may need a pre-approval if you need a home loan to know exactly what the range you can both be approved for and be comfortable with. Be realistic and at the same time focus on what you really want since the decision to buy a home is one of the biggest financial decisions in one’s life.”

– WM – What is the most overlooked part of the process of buying a home?

KB – “The planning process. That includes the loan pre-approval, inspection, appraisal, and sticking to a time-line that is reasonable. It’s important to not be in a rush if possible. Although, any challenge can be overcome with a solution.”

– WM – What part of your business are you most proud of?

KB – “I’m most proud of taking care of my clients. That’s also the most important thing to me.”

– WM – What are some areas you specialize in?

KB – “I make the process as simple to my customer; whether that is a buyer, seller, or renter. If the client wants to buy or sell, I will do everything possible to get it done.”

– WM – What is your favorite part about selling in The Woodlands?

KB – “I really love the diversity of The Woodlands. It has everything you could possibly need for entertainment, outdoor activities and great restaurants. It’s also a great place to raise a family.”

– WM – What is the current state of the market in The Woodlands? Is it a buyers or sellers market?

KB – “ We had several years of a strong seller’s market and over the past year the market has transitioned into a balanced market. The current real estate market condition is more reasonable and rational, with a decent amount of inventory and attractive price point for buying a home. The Woodlands has always been a strong market and should continue for years to come with excellent schools, both public and private, and every amenity you would ever need.”

– WM – What advice do you have for someone looking to sell their home?

KB – “Look to a professional real estate agent who can properly price and market your home to sell. I use the best professional photographers, staging services, and home improvement options if the home needs some updating or repairs prior to listing. The right pricing is key in a very competitive market. Your home is in a competition with others. ”

– WM – What is the best piece of advice you could give to someone who is just starting out in real estate?

KB – “Be committed to what you do. Do it the right, honest way. Educate yourself on the market, market trends and local developments. Stay humble and always look to learn something new. Control your time and be organized with a strong support team. Finally, make sure it is something you enjoy doing day to day, knowing you may be working on weekends and all summer. If you love it then you will be happy and successful. I found solid resources and support from Keller Williams The Woodlands, I would recommend finding a broker that supports you and your business. ”

It was a great experience getting to hear, firsthand, how much goes into buying and selling homes.

We had the chance to get to know Kevin a little more throughout the process and learned that he has a busy life outside of real estate. In addition to being married with two teenagers, he enjoys traveling, biking, and walking his two dogs in the many Woodlands parks. However, Kevin’s biggest passion is running. He runs the 5K twice a month, trains with Dana Lyons’ Finish Strong Coaching of The Woodlands, runs The Houston and Woodlands Marathons and volunteers at multiple races, including the Texas Ironman held in The Woodlands. He credits running as being his release from stress and what helps him maintain his fit lifestyle. Kevin also credits Elements Massage of The Woodlands with helping him stay healthy, injury free and stress free. Kevin Baker also is a sponsor of The Woodlands Highlanders Football Team Quarterback Club.

Kevin Baker and his family love to travel and have gone horseback riding on the hills of an extinct Volcano in Panama, snorkeled in Cozumel and Honduras, swam and biked in Latvian forests, hiked the grand canyon, toured French chateaus; to list only a few of his most memorable travels. They also enjoy the occasional cruise!
